SEMINAR
(In collaboration with the Urbanisnm Councyl of Santa Cruz de Tenerife)
For this second Biennial of the Canary Islands, in the “City Soundscapes” seminar the Municipal Urban Planning Office of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is proposing a city planning research programme with the idea of transforming the existing soundscape of our surrounding urban environment in a positive direction. It will be examining case studies of soundscapes like Schafer, Truax and Westerkamp’s World Soundscape Project and input from other persons engaged with this issue. It is not simply about designing urban spaces based on sound. It is a design of sound on a human scale. Perhaps the problematic can be reduced to an appropriate management of scale, both temporal and spatial. The idea is to recover a culture of sound in the city from the field of city planning.
